About Me

About mosaic artist Stephen Holloway

Welcome to my web site!  I was born in 1942, so you do the math... and I am a retired architect having a great time creating mosaic wall hangings.  My wife and I moved to Florida in 2002 and I love the tropical flora that surrounds us... always have loved tropical plants, even as I was growing up in central Kansas.

Living in the Philippines in the 60's, going on mission trips to Jamaica every year for the last 25 years, and traveling in Hawaii and the Caribbean have sharpened my love of tropical flora... so now I get to create these beautiful tropical plants in mosaics. Enjoy!

Stephen B. Holloway, Mosaic Artist

Florida mosaic artist

I began my mosaic art as a creative activity to pursue during my retirement years.

My interest in mosaics began when I took mosaic classes at Kansas State University during the 1960's. After I retired in 2001 from a 30 year career as an architect, I finally had time to devote to the creation of mosaics and to create a legacy for my grandchildren: Stephen, Joshua, Bryan and Anna.

My design process begins when I photograph an interesting tropical plant.  In my studio

(a.k.a., my garage) I interpret the photo, sketching a design on the mounting surface.  It is my intention to artfully interpret what I see in the photo and to lock in that vision with pieces of tile.

I love the graphic art aspects of mosaics.  My greatest enjoyment comes with the selection of various combinations of colors and shapes to achieve the desired effect.  This art combines my passion for art and tropical plants.  Whether in Florida, Spain, the Caribbean or Hawaii, I am always awed and inspired by the shapes, variety and colors of tropical plants.
